News - YOO Panama is here
The awe-inspiring YOO Panama designed by YOO inspired by Starck has launched with a star studded event this month in Panama City. With a YOO inspired by Starck design offering exuberance, colour, elegance and whimsy, the 60-story tower, developed by Habitats Developments, has already been billed as the most iconic residential community that vibrant Panama City has ever seen.
The event saw over 500 of Panama’s design aficionados attend a dynamic event within the YOO Panama building, where guests wiled the night away on the stunning pool terrace in the company of Philippe Starck, John Hitchcox, Habitats Development team, and President of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli.
Geographically rich and culturally varied, with its blazing sunsets and gleaming skyline, Panama is an undoubtedly exciting place to be. The building is located on the prime Avenida Balboa, offering sweeping ocean and bay vistas, in the elegant Bella Vista neighbourhood which features some of Panama’s most important historical architecture dating back to the Art Deco period of the 1930s.
Inside the building, the 256 YOO inspired by Starck residences and awe-inspiring amenities spaces have been created by YOO with creative direction from design icon, Philippe Starck.
They comprise two bedroom and penthouse residences with beautiful wide terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows. Captivating ocean, bay and city views, are visible from the tower with its vibrant, daring colour schemes that reflect the vibrancy of the Latin lifestyle of Panama in hot pink, orange and acid yellow.
Using bold interior statements YOO inspired by Starck has created a magical and surreal atmosphere for its residents. With the aim of bringing a little fun and a little joy to the way people live in Panama, the amenities are themed around two concepts; “The Magic Forest” and “Play.”
The Magic Forest theme begins at the porte-cochère, where towering tree trunks act as pillars and, enchantingly, tree tops have been printed on the ceiling, as if to shelter new arrivals under their branches.
Nestled in this forest is a large topiary soldier, hinting at the play theme inside. Resident’s enter the main lobby via yellow escalators and a room filled with whimsical framed portraits of regal bears and kings and queens in keeping with the forest theme.
The theme of ‘Play’ comes to life inside the lobby, where a series of elegantly furnished saloons with graduated colour schemes from orange, to yellow, hot pink and red include statement furniture pieces that create the ultime adult wonderland, with an over-sized see saw, rocking horse and rugs inscribed with the text of French children’s fairy tales.
The pool terrace at YOO Panama provides a glamorous meeting point for residents, with luxurious cabanas. The squash court is encased in rose coloured glass and a fitness centre with the latest technology and full spa has been created around the idea of “Luminosity” - a calming, luminous space, energising and relaxing, like being inside a cloud.
Residents then walk through a grand library with a snooker table and study desk to access the apartments. These are a hybrid of YOO inspired by Starck’s classic Culture/ Classic/ Minimal and Nature palettes. The two show apartments have been designed on the theme of “The House of the Collector,” with Film Noir providing inspiration.
Panama is an expanding city, and with that YOO has been offered the opportunity to bring one of its core philosophies to life, by creating a self-contained world for the Panama tribe. A place for family, for shared experiences as well as glamour and fun. As John Hitchcox, co-founder of YOO comments, “The process of creating YOO Panama with the Habitats team has been incredibly rewarding. Together we have created a truly iconic addition to the Panama City skyline with a design that offers a way of living that the country has not seen before.”
